Introduction

Technology and real estate recorded the strongest overall performance among the six major industries analysed in the latest Moore Thrive Index, outperforming the global average despite ongoing economic uncertainty.

The research, which measures both recent business performance and expectations for the year ahead across 17 economies, shows that technology achieved the highest overall Index score (+43.3), followed by real estate and construction (+38.2), compared with the global average of +35.1.

Moore’s Thrive Index is a unique research project that combines the actual experience of those running mid-market companies over the past year with their confidence about the future. It captures the balance of positive to negative scores on five key pillars across 17 economies: business sentiment, revenue, costs, the labour market and investment.

Technology businesses continue to invest heavily in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Around 75% of companies expect to increase investment over the coming year, with more than one-third planning increases of over 10%. Strong expectations for business growth and revenue are supporting continued investment despite rising labour and financing costs.

The real estate and construction sector is also showing renewed confidence after several challenging years. Improving inflation and interest rate conditions have strengthened business performance, investment activity and revenue, although companies continue to face significant cost pressures related to financing, raw materials and energy.

While automotive, manufacturing, mining and energy all recorded Index scores below the global average, businesses across these industries remain optimistic overall and continue to adapt to geopolitical uncertainty, inflationary pressures and changing market conditions.

Commenting on the findings, Jeff Blackbeard, Chief Growth Officer at Moore Global, noted that mid-market businesses have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Although business leaders remain optimistic about future growth, they are taking a more selective approach to investment, recruitment and expansion decisions.
